Which camera is right for you?

Although some phones today can capture great photos, true photography enthusiasts still swear by dedicated cameras. In our guide, you can read which camera is best for whom and what you need to be on be careful when buying ..

How to choose a digital camera?

Before choosing the right digital camera, answer a few questions to help you narrow down your choices and make your decision easier.

How much money are you willing to invest in buying a camera?

For what purpose are you buying a camera?

What should the photos look like (for normal family use or for professional purposes)?

I also want to enchant the surroundings with the camera (make the camera interesting in terms of design, small, etc.)

Everyone sets a price limit for buying a camera. If you decide to sort the cameras by price, your choice will be narrowed down and you will find it easier to choose the ideal camera.

Are you an amateur photographer or do you want to do semi-professional or professional photography? To begin, determine what is best for you. It is enough to answer the second and third questions, and the breakdown can be found below.

Types of cameras

Compact cameras

If you want to focus only on ordinary photography (vacation, celebrations, family photos), these cameras meet requirements such as easy handling and automatic programs.

The cameras are easy to use and have many automatic programs that will set you the right time, sensitivity and more that you need for the best quality photos. They boast 4x to 10x optical zoom and are small at the same time. They are practical for any demanding user who wants quality photos without wasting time setting up the camera.

Digital SLR cameras

Digital SLR cameras are divided into cameras for professionals and advanced amateur photographers who photograph a variety of events, sports and concerts and need high quality images.

A characteristic feature of a digital SLR camera is the possibility of changing lenses with different ranges, the use of a possible flash, the possibility of using filters for lenses, sun apertures and a number of other accessories.

The lens has an unequivocal influence on the quality of the photos taken, so it is important to pay attention to the quality of the lens and pay maximum attention to the purchase.

Important camera parameters

Image sensor

An important feature of the camera is the digital sensor. The sensor resolution is recorded on each camera. We are talking about units of mega pixels (Mpix, Mpx), which means a million pixels that make up the resulting record (photo).

A simple equation about mega pixels: the more mega pixels, the higher the quality of photos that can be taken in larger formats without unwanted grain (of course, this also depends on the use of ISO sensitivity and other factors when shooting). Looking at it from the other side, however, if you buy a camera with fewer mega pixels, you’ll have a hard time making a quality zoom or crop a photo.

However, it should be noted that according to the Mpix today, almost all cameras meet the requirements for high-quality photography.

Sensitivity of the image sensor

Sensitivity is indicated in ISO units. Each doubling of the ISO value means half the amount of light required for illumination.

Basic sensitivities include ISO 100, 200 and 400, which allow you to take photos, for example, on a sunny day, normal photos, and for higher labels, for example, in the evening and in low light conditions (at night and the like).

Higher sensitivity includes ISO 800 and higher (which corresponds to low and insufficient light).

Simple sensitivity equation:

the higher the sensitivity, the shorter the time required for adequate lighting,

the higher the ISO setting, the more pronounced the high noise level will be in the image, which degrades the photo.

It is always better to choose a device with a higher range of sensitivity, as it allows you to take photos in different conditions.

Camera power modes

AA batteries,

lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries.

It is not possible to state unequivocally what is better or more favorable; perhaps only from an economic point of view. AA rechargeable batteries are generally not included with the camera and must be purchased separately.

On the other hand, a lithium-ion battery is standard on camera equipment.

Camera parameters and functions

Auto Mode

The easiest way to illuminate for clear and sharp images. This mode is most suitable for everyday photography, it sets everything you need. All you have to do is turn on the device and press the shutter button. You don’t have to worry about more.

Image stabilization (stabilizer)

Its job is to stabilize the image so that it is not blurred. The stabilizer can work in several ways:

built into the lens:

works by moving the optical link. You can see its effect directly during shooting, the image appears on the screen or in the viewfinder as if it were stopped,

built into the body of the appliance:

it works on the principle of sensor motion, so the effect is the same as with a stabilizer built into the lens. However, the result is not visible in the viewfinder or screen, but only in the photo,

digital image stabilizer:

in fact, it is only about increasing the sensitivity of the sensor, ie shortening the exposure time. However, the use of this type of stabilization also leads to an undesirable reduction in image quality,

dual image stabilizer:

it is a combination of both systems, ie optical and digital stabilizer.

White balance

Its task is to influence the color rendering of the image and especially white, as different light sources have different color temperatures. Therefore, cameras almost always have the ability to activate automatic white balance. Some cameras also allow you to manually adjust this balance.

Face Detection

Given that faces are on the vast majority of shots, face recognition is a very important and useful feature. Focused faces appear directly on the LCD screen, and the camera's image and settings are adjusted so that the result is optimal, bright enough and, above all, sharp.

Sequential photography

It’s a series of photos in quick succession.

Conventional cameras can take shots at speeds of approx. two frames per second. Cheaper SLRs approx. three frames per second, and more powerful / more powerful up to about five photos per second.

Professional cameras or cameras designed for journalists, photojournalists and similar professions can take eight to ten full quality photos per second.

Color filters

Almost all cameras also offer shooting in black and white mode or with the extremely popular sepia filter (it mimics old photos with a characteristic yellow tinge).

Eliminate red-eye

It is a program function that finds two adjacent areas with red color, treats them behind the pupils and fills them with black.

Macro

This is a camera mode in which it is possible to focus on objects that are very close. The closest distance at which the camera can focus the image varies from camera to camera.

Setting this mode allows you to capture anything small (flowers of plants, insects, jewelry, sand, pebbles, objects with structure, etc.) in detail.

Zoom range

Each camera is equipped with 8x optical zoom as standard, so it is designed to capture normal events and circumstances. However, cameras with up to 50x optical zoom are also available today.

If the camera has a higher optical zoom than eight times, it allows you to capture the entire location and its details or very distant objects.

Shooting at a magnification of more than 8x is difficult to maintain good light because photos are often blurred in low light, so optical or dual image stabilization must be used.

Camera material and resistance

Choose a metal or plastic camera?

You mistakenly believe that there is a difference in resilience. This is an assumption, as metal cameras are not really more durable.

The material, however, is really more of a design effect. Metal cameras are more stylish and also more expensive than plastic ones.

Most cameras, when not designed for outdoor use, are extremely sensitive. They are harmed by many effects such as shocks, sudden changes in temperature, humidity, etc.

If you want the camera to follow your active lifestyle and be as resilient as you are, buy a camera for outdoor use. Each camera lists the features and in what extreme conditions you can use it without risking damage to it.
